Senior officials from China and the United States have been \u201ctesting the waters\u201d ahead of US President Donald Trump\u2019s coming visit to China by outlining some of their main concerns.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, new areas of concern emerged on Friday as the Chinese Ministry of Commerce warned that the United States was threatening the \u201chard-won stability\u201d in their trade relations after the national telecoms agency effectively banned smartphones tested in Chinese laboratories from the American market.<\/p>\n
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also referred to \u201chard-won stability\u201d a day earlier in a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with Wang describing Taiwan as \u201cthe biggest risk factor in China-US relations\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Taiwan issue concerns China\u2019s core interests and is the biggest risk factor in China-US relations,\u201d Wang said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe US side should honour its commitments, make the right choice, open up new space for China-US cooperation and do its part to promote world peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wang also said the two sides must \u201cmake thorough preparations for the coming high-level engagements\u201d, according to state broadcaster CCTV.<\/p>\n
