Fox News\u2019 John Roberts slammed The New York Times for publishing a headline<\/a> about Wednesday night\u2019s Minneapolis ICE-involved shooting without adding the proper \u201ccontext,\u201d asking, \u201cWhat kind of journalism is that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Roberts began by comparing The Times\u2019 headline \u2014 \u201cFederal agent shoots immigrant in Minneapolis, Homeland Security says\u201d \u2014with the lengthy statement released by the Department of Homeland Security that went into detail about the officer being \u201cambushed and attacked\u201d by three immigrants.<\/p>\n

\u201cFearing for his life and safety as he was being ambushed, the officer fired a defensive shot to defend his life. The original subject was hit in the leg,\u201d Roberts read from the DHS statement before returning to The Times piece.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe New York Times has since added more detail to the article, but when you write a headline like that without the context, that apparently, according to DHS, the writer of that article knew all about the context. What kind of signal are you sending?\u201d Roberts added.<\/p>\n

Fox News contributor Paul Mauro piled on the critique.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, everybody is playing their role, aren\u2019t they?\u201d Mauro began.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, you know, The New York Times will still tell themselves that they are the gold standard of journalism. And they\u2019ll get all kinds of Peabodys and Pulitzers and all this other stuff, and you and I both know what\u2019s going on there,\u201d Mauro said.<\/p>\n

He continued on about Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) and ICE shooting victim<\/a> Renee Good.<\/p>\n

They couldn\u2019t wait to rush to judgment, just the way Jacob Frey immediately called the shooting of Renee Good, \u201cmurder.\u201d I have to say the most pernicious lie that is driving a lot of this \u2014 and it\u2019s being abetted by the media and it\u2019s being escalated online \u2014 is this idea that ICE is driving around in Minneapolis and dragooning citizens, American citizens, out of their cars. I see people reporting things like, \u201cWe\u2019re finding abandoned cars all over the place, and these are U.S. Citizens that are being disappeared.\u201d It\u2019s not true.<\/p>\n
