Most of a CNN panel couldn\u2019t help but crack up at President Donald Trump\u2019s shaky endorsement for his son Donald Trump Jr. to host a reboot of The Apprentice.<\/p>\n
On CNN\u2019s Table for Five<\/a> on Saturday, anchor Abby Phillip and a majority of her panel found themselves laughing at the president\u2019s response to reports Trump Jr. could take over a reboot of The Apprentice for Amazon. The company previously paid out $40 million to acquire the rights to a documentary<\/a> about First Lady Melania Trump.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a good guy,\u201d Trump said<\/a> about his son, who previously appeared numerous times on the show as a judge next to his father. \u201cHe\u2019s probably good. He\u2019s got a little charisma going. You need a little charisma for that\u2026 so we\u2019ll see what happens. Yeah, they told me about it. We\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018Probably has some charisma\u2019?\u201d Phillip asked after watching the clip. \u201cNot exactly the greatest endorsement.\u201d<\/p>\n Geraldo Rivera, progressive Sirius XM host John Fugelsang, and former Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh all cracked up at the line.<\/p>\n Pete Seat \u2014 a former spokesman for former President George W. Bush \u2014 did confess to being a fan of the show and argued the competition\u2019s appeal is less about the host than the contestants and challenges.<\/p>\n Rivera compete on Trump\u2019s Celebrity Apprentice during its seventh season and he came in second place. The former contestant said he doesn\u2019t believe Trump Jr. can fill the shoes of his father, whom Rivera was friends<\/a> with for years.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, I\u2019ve known Don Jr. for a long time, almost his whole life, in fact, and Don Jr.\u2019s no Don Sr. There\u2019s a big difference, I mean, just because you\u2019re related to him \u2014\u201d Rivera began before Phillip added, \u201cI think we got that from his father\u2019s reaction,\u201d cracking up the table again.<\/p>\n Rivera called the president one of the best performers he\u2019s ever seen and argued his son\u2019s version of his show would likely attract a much smaller audience.<\/p>\n \u201cIs there a market for it? I think that maybe if it goes streaming, there\u2019ll be enough of an [audience],\u201d he said. \u201cThe audience is fractured enough that there\u2019ll a fringe that will dig Don Jr. doing Don Sr.\u2019s act, but there\u2019s only one Donald Trump. And he\u2019s much bigger than Don Jr., he\u2019s more commanding, much more charismatic. I think of the father as one of the great live performers in the history of performance. Don Jr\u2026. He\u2019s a great guy, a nice guy, but he\u2019s not his dad.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump hosted The Apprentice<\/a> and The Celebrity Apprentice<\/a> for 14 seasons combined from 2004-2015.
