World Liberty Financial initiated the legal action on Monday, alleging that the crypto billionaire engaged in a public smear campaign against the business.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was submitted in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court for Miami-Dade County, Florida. It seeks unspecified damages and a public retraction of statements Sun made on social media concerning World Liberty Financial.<\/p>\n<p>This legal move represents an escalation in the ongoing conflict between the startup and Sun, who is a major investor. In April, Sun had sued World Liberty Financial for fraud, alleging he was illegally prevented from selling digital tokens valued at up to $1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>World Liberty Financial, which launched in 2024, was founded by Donald Trump Jr., <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/companies\/profile\/1203582\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Eric Trump<\/a>, and entrepreneurs Zachary Folkman and Chase Herro. According to CoinMarketCap, the venture&#8217;s tokens have lost approximately 81% of their value over the past year and are currently trading at roughly 6 cents.<\/p>\n<p>In its lawsuit, World Liberty Financial claims that Sun bet against the company&#8217;s crypto tokens, which trade under the $WLFI ticker, and made so-called straw purchases by using third parties to buy tokens in order to conceal his identity. The company also stated that it froze tokens owned by one of Sun&#8217;s companies to protect World Liberty and the broader community of $WLFI holders.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit further alleges that instead of working constructively, Sun embarked on a scorched earth pressure campaign against World Liberty to try to extract hundreds of millions of dollars, including having his counsel threaten litigation designed to harm the company. When World Liberty refused to capitulate to Sun&#8217;s threats, the company alleges, Sun launched his public smear campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Sun&#8217;s attorneys did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In a post on X on Monday, Sun dismissed the lawsuit as a meritless PR stunt, stating he stands by his actions and looks forward to defeating the case in court.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit specifically alleges that Sun made false claims on social media, including that the company treats the crypto community as a personal ATM and that its governance practices were improper.
