MS NOW<\/a> host Nicolle Wallace<\/a> on Tuesday revealed just how tired she is of one particularly baseless theory about President Donald Trump<\/a>, namely that the MAGA leader is playing some sort of politically strategic \u201c3D chess\u201d \u2014 and not just \u201cdoing dumb **** on his phone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wallace made her case during a \u201cDeadline: White House\u201d discussion involving Dan Kanninen, who served former Vice President Kamala Harris<\/a> as battleground director ahead of the 2024 election, and Sam Stein, managing editor of anti-Trump conservative site The Bulwark<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess what I would push back and say, Dan, is that every time the press tries to figure out what sophisticated secret version of 3D chess Trump is playing, he\u2019s just doing some dumb **** on his phone,\u201d Wallace said Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cSo I want to guard against, like, the opaque mystery. It is likely, I mean, we see from the way he tweets, like, that he reaches for his phone and posts all night. If any of our children did that, they would lose their phone for a semester \u2014 or seven.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wallace and her guests had been discussing a newly released proposal<\/a> confirming Senate Republicans are seeking $1 billion<\/a> for \u201csecurity adjustments and upgrades\u201d for Trump\u2019s White House ballroom project, with Stein suggesting there are nebulous reasons behind it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it raises the question, why is he doing all of this, right?\u201d Stein said.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cIs it vanity? Probably a lot of it is. But what is the point of building all this type of stuff if you\u2019re just going to end up leaving Washington, D.C.? Is it a legacy matter? Or is it something larger than that that we\u2019re not really accurately describing?\u201d<\/p>\n

It was then that Wallace rejected the \u201cchess\u201d theory, a seeming core belief among MAGA voters<\/a> who have baselessly argued for a decade now that Trump doesn\u2019t make mistakes \u2014 and has strategically mapped out any political hurdle to drain the proverbial swamp.<\/p>\n

Many critics have certainly\u00a0slammed the ballroom as nothing but a \u201cvanity project,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0but Trump did\u00a0recently reveal<\/a>\u00a0that the military is building a massive complex beneath it \u2014 admitting this was \u201csupposed to be a secret\u201d that only came out \u201cbecause of a stupid lawsuit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stein was certainly accurate in chronicling the history of the ballroom project construction, which a federal judge recently ordered halted<\/a> after ruling it requires congressional approval, noting Trump \u201cnever\u201d told the American people they might have to pay for it.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said it was going to be fully paid for by private donations or money from his own pocket,\u201d said Stein. \u201cIt started at $200 million, went to $300 million, went to $400 million … Now it\u2019s $1 billion on top of whatever it costs to construct the ballroom itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wallace likened the proposal to slapstick comedies showing a thief shoving items under his shirt in such a \u201cstupid\u201d way that it\u2019s baffling \u201chow obvious the thieving\u201d is, and said this \u201cgold-gilded ballroom\u201d project is \u201csomething that the American people never asked for.\u201d<\/p>\n

She later noted just how high gas prices are<\/a> as a result of Trump\u2019s war on Iran<\/a> and said, \u201cAsk voters, and they will tell you that in a time of great economic distress, a gold ballroom is the last thing that the president of the United States of America should be spending his time on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wallace went on to play clips of Florida residents being interviewed last week about the project, who noted that the money \u201ccould be used elsewhere,\u201d that \u201cpeople are starving\u201d and that Trump is \u201cselfish\u201d \u2014 and \u201cshould be focused on lowering these prices.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what\u2019s happening here is that Donald Trump, especially in the second term, is not getting any conflicting information into his ecosystem,\u201d Stein argued Tuesday. \u201cHe\u2019s surrounded by people in the cabinet who are largely sycophantic.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cYou see it all the time when they have these Cabinet meetings and they praise him as if he\u2019s the Second Coming. He probably watches only news media that affirms his priors. And when does, he\u2019ll lash out on Truth Social.\u201d<\/p>\n
