Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) on Thursday criticized Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy for urging Americans to take road trips as gas prices surged<\/a> in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Americans Paying 50% More For Gas<\/p>\n

In a post on X, Newsom\u2019s Press Office quoted a video where Duffy shared his thoughts on the rising cost of gas at the pump, saying that prices would be coming down \u201cimmediately.\u201d He also outlined that \u201cenergy prices came down below $100 a barrel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanna encourage all Americans to take road trips,\u201d Duffy said, adding that it didn\u2019t matter if the road trips were \u201ctwo hours or two days\u201d long as the country was in a \u201cgood place\u201d when it comes to fuel. The Transport Secretary then said that as energy prices go down, it takes some time to \u201cricochet\u201d to \u201clower prices at the pump.\u201d He also said that it would take \u201ca week to 10 days\u201d to see prices go down.<\/p>\n

According to data<\/a> from the American Automobile Association (AAA), gas prices in the U.S. continued to surge as the national average price for a gallon of gas was at $4.583, with California residents paying over $6.165\/gallon, followed by $5.763 in Washington State and $5.662 in Hawaii.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the U.S. and Iran exchanged fire near the Strait of Hormuz<\/a>, with Trump calling the exchange a \u201clove tap.\u201d Following the skirmish, the U.S. Central Command said Iran had deployed missiles, drones and small boats, which were targeting three U.S. Navy destroyers.<\/p>\n
