Hungarians expect Budapest to approve EU financial support for Ukraine and to restore relations with Kyiv.

Overall, 64% of respondents across Hungary believe that the new government will improve relations with Kyiv within its first year.

Among voters of the Tisza party, led by Magyar, this figure rises to 74%, while among supporters of Viktor Orbán and his Fidesz party, it stands at 54%.

However, Magyar is unlikely to have a mandate for more ambitious forms of support for Ukraine.

A majority of respondents opposed unblocking negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Similarly, most are against financial and military support for Kyiv from Budapest.

The online survey was conducted in Hungary by Stratega Research and Mandate Research between 17 and 27 April 2026, based on a sample of 1,001 adult respondents.

Read also: <a href="https://www.eurointegration.com.ua/eng/articles/2026/04/30/7236620/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" data-ylk="elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Will Péter Magyar be another Orbán?
