WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 President Donald Trump threatened the European Union with higher tariffs if they do not agree to the U.S. president’s trade deal by July 4th, America’s birthday. Last Friday, Trump said the EU would face a 25% tariff on autos beginning this week. The July 4th deadline appears to be an extension. <\/p>\n
In a post to Truth Social, Trump wrote he had a “great call” with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. However, Trump wrote he has been “waiting patiently” for the EU to fulfill its side of a deal. The deal would rescind the tariffs on the EU. <\/p>\n
A promise was made that the EU would deliver their side of the Deal and, as per Agreement, cut their Tariffs to ZERO! I agreed to give her until our Country\u2019s 250th Birthday or, unfortunately, their Tariffs would immediately jump to much higher levels. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump wrote. <\/p>\n
After the U.K. King and Queen visited the U.S., Trump rescinded tariffs and restrictions on whiskey. He removed the restrictions after the royals visited the U.S. and did so without “hardly even asking.”<\/p>\n
“I just took all the restrictions off so Scotland and Kentucky can start dealing again,” Trump told reporters after he made the move. “They’ve been trying to get this for a long time,” the president added. <\/p>\n
In the original EU deal, the U.S. placed a 15% tax on most goods imported from the EU. Since the Supreme Court ruling on tariffs, the administration lowered the tariff to 10% to make-up for lost revenues. <\/p>\n
Among tariffs, Trump wrote that the two also discussed the ongoing conflict in Iran on the call.<\/p>\n
“We discussed many topics, including that we are completely united that Iran can never have a Nuclear Weapon.
