Melania Trump\u2019s Mother\u2019s Day op-ed, <\/a>published in The Washington Post, has been torn to shreds by some readers with the first lady being described as \u201ctone deaf\u201d and a \u201cdisgrace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The piece<\/a>, published Friday, sees the first lady referred to mothers as \u201cthe foundation\u201d of American democracy<\/a> and the \u201cfirst teachers of empathy, aspiration and discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n

It also called for the restoration of \u201cthe honor of motherhood after years in which feminism often placed career above family, with consequences to our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The response to the opinion piece was met with swift backlash, with many readers expressing skepticism over its authenticity and the first lady\u2019s<\/a>credibility to speak on <\/a>family values.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis woman has done NOTHING of substance for women, mothers, children or anyone else well into her second tour as First Lady. BE BEST and just go away!\u201d wrote one reader in the comments section of the article, invoking Melania\u2019s own words and \u201cBe Best\u201d White House initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour husband compared a reporter to a female dog the other day,\u201d one reader added.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are one tone deaf person,\u201d wrote another.<\/p>\n

The first lady\u2019s op-ed comes after her self-titled documentary was released by Amazon earlier this year, at a reported cost of $75 million. <\/a>Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also owns The Post.<\/p>\n

The connection was not lost on the Washington paper\u2019s readers. \u201cDoes Bezos\u2019 devotion to the Trumps have no bottom?\u201d wrote one user.<\/p>\n

One reader wrote: \u201cThe Washington Post was once a great newspaper and my reliable companion every morning. Now it\u2019s\u2026. this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since Bezos\u2019 takeover of The Post, it has lost significant readership. After 44 percent of The Post\u2019s reporters were laid off in February, the newspaper lost 60,000 subscribers, The New York Times <\/a>reported. Veterans of the paper have also resigned, including opinion editor David Shipley, who left in February.
