A joint summit hosted by French president Emmanuel Macron and his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto in Nairobi this week will be focussed on \u201cEurope coming to Africa on an equal basis\u201d,\u00a0according to Kenyan officials.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfrica is not coming to Europe,\u00a0it is a case of Europe coming to Africa on an equal basis,\u201d\u00a0Abraham\u00a0Korir\u00a0Sing\u2019Oei, permanent secretary at Kenya\u2019s foreign ministry, told reporters on\u00a0Thursday (7 May)\u00a0<\/p>\n
Billed as the \u2018Africa Forward Summit\u2019<\/a>,\u00a0Macron and Ruto\u00a0are expected to unveil a series of investment deals involving French companies in Kenya, including a technology transfer agreement on vaccine production<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0not Africa\u00a0begging,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0not about aid.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0about what we can do together with an equal relationship,\u201d added Korir\u00a0Sing\u2019Oei.\u00a0<\/p>\n The choice of Kenya was a surprise since France has traditionally had little diplomatic presence in anglophone Africa.
