The Amazon founder first started sailing the vessel in 2023. The yacht, which was previously known as Project 271, was made by Dutch manufacturer Oceanco, according to Bloomberg<\/a>. Koru is believed to be the largest sailing yacht in the world, according to Boat International<\/a>, with a length of 417 feet. It includes three towering masts, several decks, a pool atop the aft deck and seating on the bowsprit.<\/p>\n When it came to naming the boat, Bezos went with the name Koru, which is M\u0101ori for loop or coil, and is symbolized by a spiral shape. Koru references a new beginning and ushering in a new phase of life, change and personal growth. The sculpture shows a female mermaid outfitted with gold embellishment, including a necklace with the Koru symbol. MacKay, who wrote the 2021 book The Golden Age of Newport Yachting: Between the Wars, told The New York Times<\/a>, “With the clipper bow and the dark hull and the masts, it reminds me of a boat built in 1930 for J.P.
