The “maximum warfare” remark emerged after Virginia voters<\/a> approved a Democratic-leaning new congressional map on April 21, which could have given the party up to four additional House seats in the midterms. <\/p>\n Jeffries was asked by a reporter at a press conference<\/a> the following day about Florida\u2019s redistricting plans, saying that we \u201care in an era of maximum warfare, everywhere, all the time,\u201d and vowed to continue pushing back against Trump\u2019s push for Republican-led states to redraw district lines before the midterms.\u00a0<\/p>\n Following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting<\/a> three days later, several Republican leaders called Jeffries \u201cmaximum warfare\u201d remark dangerous and accused him of intentionally stoking partisan resentment that led to the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cSo-called Hakeem Jeffries is a disgrace to the United States Congress. He is deranged, disgusting and violent,” Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla.) to X<\/a> on\u00a0April 26. \u201cIt is unacceptable that House Democrats continue to remain silent in the aftermath of his call for \u201cmaximum warfare, everywhere, all the time\u201d against Republicans. Their casual acceptance of hateful and divisive language enables this out-of-control behavior.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Jeffries stood by his remark during another press conference on April 27, saying that he doesn’t \u201cgive a damn about the criticism\u201d and outwardly condemning the shooting.\u00a0<\/p>\n Trump\u2019s call for Jeffries to be criminally prosecuted for the remark comes days after his previous call for Jeffries\u2019 impeachment<\/a> over calling the U.S. Supreme Court \u201cillegitimate,\u201d even though members of Congress cannot be impeached.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Jeffores used the phrase in response<\/a> to the Supreme Court\u2019s April 29th ruling in Louisiana<\/a>, striking down a majority-Black district and cutting back on a provision of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.\u00a0<\/p>\n The post also marks the third time this year that Trump has referred to Jeffries as \u201clow-IQ<\/a>,\u201d a phrase he has used in the past to predominantly refer to people of color and women, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)\u00a0and Rep.
