Hungary will not send weapons or\u00a0troops to\u00a0Ukraine and will not take part in\u00a0a\u00a0\u20ac90 billion loan program for Kiev, according to\u00a0Anita Orban, the country\u2019s\u00a0incoming foreign minister, as\u00a0reported by\u00a0Index.<\/p>\n
She also said Hungary\u2019s\u00a0new leadership would not support Ukraine\u2019s\u00a0accession to\u00a0the European Union unless specific conditions are met.<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0Orban, Ukraine\u2019s\u00a0EU\u00a0bid should be\u00a0assessed only on\u00a0the basis of\u00a0real merit, strict requirements and clear guarantees. She named respect for the rights of\u00a0Hungarians living in\u00a0Transcarpathia as\u00a0one of\u00a0the key conditions. At\u00a0the same time, she stressed that the issue must not be\u00a0turned into a\u00a0political farce.<\/p>\n
Orban also argued that in\u00a0recent years Hungary has too often been treated by\u00a0the European Union not as\u00a0a\u00a0full partner, but rather as\u00a0a\u00a0pawn. In\u00a0her view, this has weakened the country\u2019s\u00a0position within the bloc. The new government, she said, intends to\u00a0build its foreign policy around security, fairness and influence.<\/p>\n
Anita Orban\u2019s\u00a0expected appointment as\u00a0Hungary\u2019s\u00a0foreign minister became known in\u00a0late April. Peter Magyar, leader of\u00a0the Tisa party that won the parliamentary elections, announced the decision.<\/p>\n
