Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock<\/a> of Georgia appeared on \u201cPod Save America<\/a>\u201d this week, where he was asked about comments he recently made in an interview with MSNOW\u2019s Jen Psaki<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is how fascists talk,\u201d Warnock told Psaki last month, referring to Vice President JD Vance\u2019s criticisms<\/a> of Pope Leo XIV. \u201cThey tell the people who are faith leaders to stay in your lane. You know, there were a lot of religious leaders during Hitler\u2019s Third Reich.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warnock, who is also a Baptist pastor, doubled down during his appearance with host Jon Favreau.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my view, JD Vance is one of the most craven politicians on the American landscape,\u201d Warnock said. \u201cHere is someone who literally said that Donald Trump is America\u2019s Hitler. And then he actually ran a campaign to become his running mate. Yeah, he ran a campaign focused on one to be his running mate. So if, if Trump is America\u2019s Hitler and then he campaigned to be his running mate, what does that make JD Vance?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Warnock continued by calling out Vance\u2019s recent rediscovery of Catholicism<\/a>, and the cynical performative religiosity<\/a> exhibited by President Donald Trump and his minions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pope is doing what we need more religious leaders to do,\u201d Warnock continued. \u201cAnd that is to bring a kind of moral question to who we are and he was literally advocating for peace. Imagine that?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pope, has made his feelings clear about his moral opposition to the current administration\u2019s policies at home and abroad. Most recently, the pope declined an invitation<\/a> to spend July 4th anywhere near Trump and crew, instead choosing to visit Lampedusa, a small Italian island that has long served as a landing point for migrants crossing from Africa into Europe.<\/p>\n
