Euractiv says EU states are assessing which arms they can supply to Ukraine under a \u20ac90bn loan, with Europe\u2019s defense industry facing a major test.<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0Euractiv commentators, EU\u00a0member states are now trying to\u00a0determine which weapons they could supply to\u00a0Ukraine using previously approved loan funds.<\/p>\n
The publication noted that fewer than half of\u00a0the bloc\u2019s\u00a0members have responded so\u00a0far, leaving the overall picture unclear.<\/p>\n
Citing a\u00a0source, Euractiv reported that European Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius and EU\u00a0foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas sent requests to\u00a0national governments asking what deliveries they would be\u00a0ready to\u00a0offer Kiev. A\u00a0senior EU\u00a0official told the portal that the multibillion-euro loan for Ukraine will become a\u00a0major test for Europe\u2019s\u00a0defense industry.<\/p>\n
On\u00a0April 23, European Council President Antonio Costa said EU\u00a0countries had finally approved a\u00a0\u20ac90 billion loan for Ukraine. Under the proposed terms, Kiev would have to\u00a0repay the funds only if\u00a0it\u00a0receives \u00abreparations\u00bb from Moscow.<\/p>\n
The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly said that EU\u00a0ideas about possible payments from Moscow have no\u00a0realistic basis.
