{"id":67244,"date":"2026-05-12T05:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T05:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/67244\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T05:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T05:08:09","slug":"gavin-newsom-slams-trump-over-iran-war-gas-premium-after-analyst-says-americans-paid-28-billion-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/67244\/","title":{"rendered":"Gavin Newsom Slams Trump Over &#8216;Iran War Gas Premium&#8217; After Analyst Says Americans Paid $28 Billion More &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"block core-block\">GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan on Monday said that ordinary Americans had spent over $28 billion extra at the gas stations as President Donald Trump mulls rescinding the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/news\/politics\/26\/05\/52311814\/gavin-newsom-defends-californias-gas-tax-slams-trumps-iran-war-surcharge-as-prices-exceed-6-gallon-higher-groceries-higher-airfares\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">federal gas tax<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Iran War Premium<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">In a post on X, De Haan shared that the possible elimination of the \u201c18.4\u00a2 federal gas tax\u201d could do little to provide relief to people, as the \u201cIran war premium\u201d added approximately \u201c$1.35 per gallon\u201d at the pump, costing over $28 billion since the war began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2018s (D-CA) official Press Office handle quoted De Haan\u2019s post, delivering sharp criticism of Trump. \u201cIT IS LONG PAST TIME TO ELIMINATE THE IRAN WAR GAS PREMIUM BEING CHARGED TO EVERY AMERICAN!!\u201d the post said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">In a separate post, De Haan also outlined that eliminating the Federal gas tax in the short term may not be enough as \u201cmotorists would need that tax holiday to last about 406 days- more than 13 months- just to offset those added costs,\u201d he said in the post.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Wright Says America In \u201cTremendous Position\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">He reiterated that the U.S. was in a \u201ctremendous position,\u201d reaffirming the country\u2019s energy sector\u2019s prowess, and touting that the U.S. was by far the &#8220;world&#8217;s largest producer of oil.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Iran WarGas Prices On Monday<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">data<\/a> collated by the American Automobile Association (AAA) illustrated a slight decline in the national average price for a gallon of gas in the U.S., which was at $4.520. California once again had the highest gas prices at over $6.158\/gallon. On the diesel front, the current national average price was $5.636\/gallon.
