{"id":68934,"date":"2026-05-13T06:30:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T06:30:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/68934\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T06:30:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T06:30:18","slug":"1-8b-trump-tower-deal-on-australias-gold-coast-scrapped-developer-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/68934\/","title":{"rendered":"$1.8b Trump Tower deal on Australia&#8217;s Gold Coast scrapped, developer says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Emily Dobson, ABC<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/4JSPUS5_ABC_Altus_avif.jpeg\" width=\"1050\" height=\"590\" alt=\"Developers say the proposed Trump Tower will be taller than any existing building in Australia.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nThe plan to build a Trump Tower on the Gold Coast has been abandoned.<br \/>\nPhoto: Supplied \/ ABC \/ Altus Property Group\n<\/p>\n<p>Plans for a A$1.5 billion (NZ$1.8b) Trump Tower on the Gold Coast have been scrapped less than three months <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/world\/587740\/trump-tower-planned-for-gold-coast-will-be-australia-s-tallest-building-developer-claims\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after the deal was made<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 91-storey, branded tower proposed for Surfers Paradise would have been Australia&#8217;s tallest building.<\/p>\n<p>Altus Property Group chief executive and founder David Young, who proposed the project, said the Trump Organisation had pulled out but he still hoped a tower would be built on the site.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let&#8217;s just say that with the Iran war and everything else, the Trump brand was increasingly toxic in Australia,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some time ago we knew it was time to part company.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was not about not meeting obligations. There are other luxury brand options for us.
