Vice President JD Vance<\/a> attempted some damage control on Wednesday after President Donald Trump<\/a> said that he doesn\u2019t \u201cthink about Americans\u2019 financial situation\u201d when considering a deal to end the war in Iran.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

While making remarks at the White House on the Trump administration\u2019s so-called \u201cwar on fraud,\u201d Vance was pressed on the president\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you agree with the president\u2019s position that Americans\u2019 financial situations should not be a consideration?\u201d a reporter asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I don\u2019t think the president said that, I think that\u2019s a misrepresentation of what the president said,\u201d Vance said. \u201cLook, I agree with the president that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon. We\u2019re obviously engaged in a very aggressive and very engaged diplomatic process to try to ensure that that doesn\u2019t happen, and the president has a lot of options.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vance wasn\u2019t the only Republican leader who deflected questions about Trump\u2019s statements on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), when asked about the issue, appeared to try and play dumb<\/a>, saying he didn\u2019t \u201cknow the context in which he made that comment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can tell you the president thinks about Americans\u2019 financial situations,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI talk to him, on average, twice a day, sometimes three or four times a day, and we talk about it constantly.\u201d<\/p>\n
