First Lady Melania Trump<\/a> is under fire for a recent Mother\u2019s Day message that was seemingly intended to be hopeful. The backlash stems from her Mother\u2019s Day op-ed in The Washington Post, which is drawing a wave of harsh words from critics online. Many have called out Trump\u2019s post for being \u201ctone deaf,\u201d claiming it does not appropriately acknowledge the struggles of mothers.<\/p>\n

Melania Trump\u2019s Mother\u2019s Day piece faces backlash from critics<\/p>\n

On Friday, May 8, 2026, the FLOTUS wrote a Mother\u2019s Day op-ed in The Washington Post.<\/p>\n

Titled \u201cMothers are America\u2019s strength<\/a>,\u201d a part of the article said that mothers are \u201cthe foundation\u201d of the nation\u2019s democracy, adding that they are also a kid\u2019s \u201cfirst teachers of empathy, aspiration, and discipline.\u201d Meanwhile, Melania Trump also urged a restoration of \u201chonor\u201d of motherhood after years when \u201cfeminism often placed careers above family.\u201d Elsewhere in the post, she even noted that \u201cwomen can thrive in both motherhood and business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the op-ed\u2019s publication, the comments drew a lot of attention, garnering a wide range of responses. The majority of them have criticized Trump\u2019s post. One X (formerly Twitter)<\/a> user wrote, \u201cWhen you are completely tone deaf and have absolutely NO idea what true mothers go through, especially single mothers in this horrible economy!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

A second user replied<\/a>, \u201cI am HIGHLY OFFENDED by the preachy, paternalistic, overbearing and arrogant tone of Melania Trump speaking to America\u2019s mothers in an op-ed. WE ALL KNOW she did not write! How disrespectful. How offensive! She insults our intelligence!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEspecially when they are dressed in designer labels and don\u2019t worry about providing nourishing food for their families. You have one child, not a houseful and regular help, so stop the advice! We are doing the best we can without your useless talk,\u201d commented<\/a> another. Meanwhile, fourth user speculated<\/a>, \u201cDoes anyone really think she wrote this?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have no clue what it takes to raise children in today\u2019s world. Not everybody has it easy like you. You\u2019re living off the American people\u2019s hard work, something you know nothing about,\u201d yet another user<\/a> added.<\/p>\n

However, not all comments were harsh. Some users praised Melania Trump\u2019s Mother\u2019s Day post. One stated<\/a>, \u201cBeautiful words from a wonderful First Lady. Mother-child love has always been at the heart of our nation. Let\u2019s keep family first!\u201d<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the First Lady has yet to respond to the criticism directed at her latest op-ed.<\/p>\n
