{"id":70403,"date":"2026-05-14T03:46:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T03:46:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/70403\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T03:46:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T03:46:10","slug":"pete-hegseth-removes-britain-from-list-of-us-allies-after-keir-starmers-failure-to-support-iran-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/70403\/","title":{"rendered":"Pete Hegseth removes Britain from list of US allies after Keir Starmer&#8217;s failure to support Iran war"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has chastised Britain once again for its failure to support America&#8217;s offensive in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>In a damning written statement to Congress, Mr Hegseth said allies&#8217; refusal to join in was &#8220;unconscionable&#8221; &#8211; and warned: &#8220;We will remember.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He then threatened &#8220;consequences&#8221; would follow for Nato members which &#8220;do not step up&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hegseth said Nato had become &#8220;beset by free-riding&#8221; in the wake of the Cold War, and called on allies to &#8220;step up and make good on their commitments to our collective defence&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not all allies have gotten the message, and where they do not step up, there will be consequences,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In recent weeks, for instance, far too many of our Nato allies showed that they could not be relied upon to support our nation\u2019s operations against Iran &#8211; despite the fact that they themselves are far more reliant on Middle East energy markets than we are, and also share our interest in denying Iran a nuclear weapons and otherwise degrading Iran\u2019s power projection capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is unconscionable &#8211; and we will remember.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hegseth then notably left Britain and France off a list of &#8220;model allies&#8221; which included Israel, South Korea, Poland, Finland and the Baltic states.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"6f536\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"f31966a863d0e09986db081ca137a4b0\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%202000%201333'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/people\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/pete-hegseth.jpg\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"Pete Hegseth\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Mr Hegseth then notably left Britain and France off a list of &#8216;model allies&#8217;<\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>He has previously dismissed Anglo-French efforts to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz once the war ends as &#8220;silly&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He continued: &#8220;Americans want partners &#8211; not dependencies. And, thanks to President Trump&#8217;s visionary leadership, that is what we are building. Real partnerships and alliances based on hard power.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our allies aren\u2019t powerless. They are nations capable of doing far more for themselves than they have. It&#8217;s time they stood up, and some of them are.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Britain&#8217;s Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed the UK would deploy autonomous mine-hunting equipment, anti-drone systems and Typhoon jets to the strait.<\/p>\n<p>                THE STRAINED SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP &#8211; was between America and Israel<\/p>\n<p> | GETTY<\/p>\n<p>Countries like the United Kingdom which could not get jet fuel because of the restrictions around the strait should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/politics\/us\/donald-trump-address-uk-europe-courage-take-strait-of-hormuz-iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#8220;build up some delayed courage, go to the strait, and just TAKE IT&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was addressing countries &#8220;which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran&#8221;, adding: &#8220;The hard part is done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In another veiled swipe at Europe, the President piled praise on Israel and the Gulf states for their help during the conflict, saying: &#8220;They&#8217;ve been great, and we will not let them get hurt or fail in any way, shape or form.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Israel has clear missions as well for which we are grateful,&#8221; Mr Hegseth said. &#8220;Capable partners are good partners.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unlike so many of traditional allies who wring their hands and clutch their pearls, hemming and hawing about the use of force.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>His words echoed those of the British ambassador to the US, Sir Christian Turner &#8211; who said America&#8217;s real &#8220;special relationship&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/politics\/keir-starmer-embarrassed-ambassador-us-leaked-audio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">wasn&#8217;t with the UK, but with Israel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The relationship will carry on, if you want, being &#8216;special&#8217;, but I think it&#8217;s going to have to be different,&#8221;
