The upcoming NATO summit in T\u00fcrkiye will serve as a powerful display of the alliance\u2019s political cohesion and military capabilities in the face of growing Russian aggression, Polish President Karol Nawrocki said Wednesday. Speaking after a Bucharest Nine (B9) summit in Romania, Nawrocki told reporters that allied leaders held constructive dialogue in preparation for the July 7-8 NATO summit in Ankara.<\/p>\n
Expanding the eastern flank<\/p>\n
Nawrocki voiced support for expanding the B9 format to include Nordic NATO members \u2014 Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Denmark \u2014 to strengthen security coordination \u201cfrom the Arctic to the Black Sea.\u201d He said the Kremlin seeks \u201cto rebuild its spheres of influence, to undermine NATO\u2019s cohesion, and to erode the sovereignty and democracy of countries in our region.\u201d The Polish president stressed that \u201cthere is no NATO without the United States\u201d and that strong Europe-US cooperation remains essential.<\/p>\n
Defence spending and next summit<\/p>\n
Nawrocki said allies expect a \u201cstrong message\u201d from Ankara encouraging NATO members to accelerate defence spending, adding that commitments from the last Hague summit should be seen as \u201ca target along the way.\u201d He announced that the next B9 summit will be hosted in Warsaw.
