Details of aid and response to Russian attacks<\/p>\n
According to von der Leyen, the decision to allocate funds is being made amid intensifying Russian terror. In particular, she referred to the latest mass drone attack on Ukrainian cities.<\/p>\n
“Last night, Russia launched one of its longest and most relentless drone attacks against Ukraine,” the European Commission President emphasized.<\/p>\n
She added that while the Kremlin ignores diplomatic efforts, the EU will continue strengthening Ukraine\u2019s defense capabilities and increasing pressure on the aggressor\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
“We are finalising a \u20ac6 billion drone support package. And we keep the pressure on Russia\u2019s war economy with ever tougher sanctions,” von der Leyen said.<\/p>\n
EU aid to Ukraine<\/p>\n
Ursula von der Leyen previously stated that Ukraine would receive the first \u20ac6 billion <\/a>defense package for drones within the current quarter.<\/p>\n These funds are part of a larger \u20ac90 billion loan, two-thirds of which is intended for defense needs.<\/p>\n It has also been reported that the EU may disburse <\/a>the first tranche of this loan package as early as next week.<\/p>\n
