Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a> (D-N.Y.) torched CBS News Editor-In-Chief Bari Weiss<\/a> on Thursday after reports surfaced that she allegedly let Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> select his interviewer for last weekend\u2019s \u201c60 Minutes\u201d segment.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Speaking with reporters outside the Capitol,\u00a0Ocasio-Cortez called into question Weiss\u2019s journalistic integrity while saying she couldn\u2019t think of any other foreign leader with this level of influence over American media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat CBS situation is just a violation, I think, of any journalistic standards,\u201d\u00a0Ocasio-Cortez told Drop Site News reporter Julian Andreone. \u201cSo it doesn\u2019t surprise me that Bari Weiss is letting elected officials, who should be held accountable by journalists and the free media, instead she\u2019s doing things the other way around and letting her friends pick their interviewer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWould a foreign leader in any other country get to exercise this type of influence over our media?\u201d\u00a0Andreone asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve certainly never heard of something like that happening, so I can\u2019t name a precedent,\u201d\u00a0Ocasio-Cortez said.<\/p>\n

The New York Post<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday, citing sources close to the situation, reported that Netanyahu only agreed to the interview after \u201can unusual \u2018negotiation\u2019\u201d with Weiss.<\/p>\n

The report also said that Weiss personally booked the interview and gave the prime minister a choice between CBS News\u2019 chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett and veteran \u201c60 Minutes \u201d correspondent Lesley Stahl.<\/p>\n

Sources told the Post that Netanyahu only agreed to the interview after Weiss gave him \u201ca say in the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBari did what she had to do to secure the interview,\u201d a source told The Post. \u201cBibi\u2019s office picked Major over Stahl.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMajor Garrett was a friendly face and a reliable choice because he would not challenge Netanyahu,\u201d another source told the Post.<\/p>\n

A representative for CBS News said in a statement to The Post that: \u201cIt\u2019s the editor in chief\u2019s job to make decisions about bookings and interviews. Major is a world-class journalist and did a tough, fair, and news-making interview.\u201d<\/p>\n
