Veteran politico James Carville says he feels bad for a soon-to-be-demoted Mike Johnson.<\/p>\n

Carville, 81, told former CNN anchor Jim Acosta on The Jim Acosta Show podcast that he sees President Donald Trump\u2019s loyal House Speaker as a \u201ctragic figure\u201d of the second Trump administration, who will likely be out of a job come November.<\/p>\n

While discussing Trump\u2019s absurd \u201cI don\u2019t care about Americans\u2019 financial situation\u201d comment from Tuesday, Acosta brought up the Louisiana congressman\u2019s excuse for the president\u2019s candid apathy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know the context in which he made that comment,\u201d Johnson, 54, said at a news conference Wednesday morning. \u201cBut I can tell you the president thinks about Americans\u2019 financial situations. I talk to him on average twice a day, sometimes three or four times a day, and we talk about it constantly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson pulled his classic <\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, James, that\u2019s about the same as I didn\u2019t read the tweet,\u201d Acosta, 55, said on the Wednesday episode about Johnson\u2019s defense of the 79-year-old president.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t much care for Mike Johnson,\u201d Carville, a Louisiana native, said. \u201cWe\u2019re both from the same state, different parts. Our politics are really different.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt some point, I feel sorry for the guy. He\u2019s in over his head,\u201d the \u201cRagin\u2019 Cajun\u201d continued. \u201cHe knows he\u2019s going to be out in November. He\u2019s trying to just cobble together something and just keep himself from being humiliated in public, and he\u2019s not going to be able to stop it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s kind of a tragic figure in all of this. I really believe that,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019ve attacked him on numerous times before, but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s what he would say, the Christian thing to do here. I think we should give him a nice burial, because he\u2019s dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson\u2019s office did not immediately return the Daily Beast\u2019s request for comment on Carville\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n

The Democratic strategist also ripped into Trump\u2019s statement during Wednesday\u2019s Politicon podcast, saying that he thinks the president really means what he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what? He might be telling the truth,\u201d Carville told co-host Al Hunt. \u201cBecause I think there\u2019s only one thing that he\u2019s thinking about in his trip to China: and that is a big grift.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Louisianan went on to say that Trump cares about no one but himself, not even his Republican colleagues nor his own American constituents.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs long as he can go there and make as much money as fast as he can make it, that\u2019s all that he cares about,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019re going to watch a grift and graft over there like you can\u2019t imagine.
