Backed by MEPs in January, the case could delay the ratification of the full agreement for up to two years. In a bid to reap the deal\u2019s benefit sooner, the European Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/brussels-implements-eu-mercosur-trade-deal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">will start applying<\/a> its trade provisions from May 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Poland\u2019s parallel filing adds political noise, not legal firepower.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy PM W\u0142adys\u0142aw Kosiniak-Kamysz, leader of the farmer-friendly PSL party, <a href=\"https:\/\/tvn24.pl\/biznes\/z-kraju\/mercosur-wicepremier-wladyslaw-kosiniak-kamysz-polska-zaskarzy-umowe-do-tsue-st9015213\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">broke the news<\/a>, saying the complaint would target Mercosur\u2019s impact on food security and the procedure used to push it through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will challenge this agreement,\u201d he said. \u201cFood security is threatened, consumer protection is threatened, and the way the agreement was implemented is not correct.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Agriculture Minister Stefan Krajewski, tasked with preparing the complaint, said he hoped to file before May 1. However, he could not say what specific legal arguments Poland would make, what the complaint would achieve, or whether Warsaw would seek to suspend the deal\u2019s provisional application.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working on it,\u201d he repeatedly told reporters at a hastily-organized press conference in Warsaw on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>As recently as late March, Tusk had said the government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.money.pl\/gospodarka\/nie-bedzie-osobnej-skargi-na-mercosur-tusk-zostala-juz-zlozona-na-wniosek-pe-7268503447640160a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">saw no need to file its own complaint<\/a>, arguing the Parliament\u2019s referral was sufficient.
