Sen. Cory Booker<\/a> (D-NJ) highlighted Sen. Jon Ossoff<\/a> (D-GA), Texas state Rep. James Talarico<\/a>, and former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper<\/a> as three Democrats he sees as \u201cleaders\u201d in the party who are \u201cstepping up\u201d and prioritizing the people.<\/p>\n

Booker told Jake Tapper<\/a> on State of the Union on Sunday his party \u201cdesperately needs new leadership\u201d and that he has had \u201cfrustrations \u2026 with the Democratic Party for a long time.\u201d The comments come after the Democratic National Committee<\/a> released its 2024 autopsy report<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou cannot lead the people if they don\u2019t trust you,\u201d Booker said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what\u2019s lacking right now with the party apparatus. But the people running out there that I\u2019m running around this country trying to support, they\u2019re building real trust with the American people, and that\u2019s my hope.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talarico and Cooper are the Democratic Senate candidates in Texas and North Carolina, respectively. Talarico will face either Trump-backed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton<\/a> or incumbent Sen. John Cornyn<\/a> (R-TX), while Cooper faces Michael Whatley,<\/a> a former Republican National Committee chairman.<\/p>\n

Booker did not give a direct answer when asked if he has faith in Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer<\/a> (D-NY).<\/p>\n

Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin faced backlash<\/a> from stakeholders late in the week after the DNC released an error-filled, incomplete 2024 autopsy that many felt did not accurately describe what went wrong in the election. Booker called<\/a> for Martin to release the autopsy earlier in the month.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are not going to win this election just by what you\u2019re against,\u201d Booker said, echoing the common criticism that Democrats solely center their messaging on attacking President Donald Trump<\/a> rather than promoting new ideas.<\/p>\n

Booker, a possible 2028 presidential candidate, has developed ties<\/a> with the Make America Healthy Again movement over the last year.
