John Charles Modde II, 64, of Carbondale, Kansas died Friday, May 22, 2026 in Carbondale, Kansas.<\/p>\n
He was born February 13, 1962 in Fort Riley, Kansas the son of John Charles Modde I and Theresa Furst.\u00a0 With his father being in the military, John moved a lot throughout his childhood before graduating from Custer High School in Custer, South Dakota with the class of 1980.\u00a0He went on to complete some college.<\/p>\n
On April 9, 1993, John was united in marriage to Hazel \u201cBecca\u201d Burnworth in Newton, Kansas.\u00a0 They then moved to Carbondale where they shared 33 years of loving marriage with each other.<\/p>\n
John began serving his country in the United States Army in 1980.\u00a0 He retired after 25 years as a Sergeant First Class.\u00a0 John was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Superior Unit Award, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer\u2019s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Army Lapel Button, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, Air Assault Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-W Bar, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Mechanic Bar, and the Silver German Army Marksmanship Badge.\u00a0 He was a very proud American and loved the military.\u00a0<\/p>\n
John was a very faithful Christian.\u00a0 He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns.\u00a0 He loved anything outdoors, including riding his Harley and grilling for his friends, especially his best friends Kelly Stubbs, Dustin Wegner, and T Cruz.\u00a0 Most of all, John was a loving and devoted husband, father, and Papa to his grandchildren.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Furst; a sister,\u00a0Cathy Knox; and a brother, Jeffrey Modde.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his wife, Hazel \u201cBecca\u201d Modde of the home; a daughter, Tosha Smith and her husband, Brad, of Carbondale, KS; four sons, John Charles Modde III\u00a0and Kasey Modde\u00a0of Copperas Cove, TX, Ezra Cody Godshall and his wife, Sydney, of Carbondale, KS, Cory Godshall of Derby, KS, and Blaze Modde of Carbondale, KS; his father, John Charles Modde I of Billings, MT; a sister, Patty Nelson and her husband, Mark, of Rapid City, SD; seven grandchildren, Gavyn, Lylah, and Rigyn Smith, Jackson, Piper, and Johnny Modde IV, Hailey Grace, and one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.<\/p>\n
Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2026 at Carbondale Cemetery, Carbondale, KS.\u00a0 Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Anderson-Raible Post 239 and sent c\/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
