(NewsNation<\/a>) \u2014 A new documentary about the rise of artificial intelligence<\/a> has made waves, and nonprofit founder Tristan Harris believes the film will clarify the path humans and technology are on for the future.<\/p>\n

The program<\/a>, \u201cThe AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist,\u201d was released<\/a> last week and explores the intersection of AI development and its impact on humanity from a personal perspective.<\/p>\n

The doc features interviews<\/a> with OpenAI\u2019s Sam Altman, Anthropic\u2019s Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind\u2019s Demis Hassabis.<\/p>\n

AI school seeks to revolutionize education <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the AI doc should really do is just clarify the\u00a0current path that we\u2019re on is not to give us, again, a prohuman future that\u2019s\u00a0supporting American workers, but to replace human workers and consolidate all that\u00a0wealth in eight soon-to-be trillionaires who are going to hold all the wealth in the\u00a0future,\u201d Harris, the co-founder of the Center of Humane Technology, told \u201cCUOMO.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Harris added that the film is meant to catalyze a conversation about some of the basics that humans can use to protect themselves from the harms of AI.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Steven Pinker calls common knowledge, that if I know that you know that I know and you know that I know that we know, then everybody knows that the default path is not acceptable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd even if it\u2019s hard, we\u2019ve done hard things before, and we have to choose the other path, but not in this space, because we don\u2019t even look at the algorithms which we know by design are destroying us and feeding us our worst selves. They are not a glitch. They are a feature.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another aspect Harris said the doc can do is make the AI debate less confusing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it\u2019s confusing, the company\u2019s default incentives win,\u201d stated Harris. \u201cIt means the companies get their way. And the default path that we\u2019re heading towards is to an antihuman future.\u201d<\/p>\n
