Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan said Monday that T\u00fcrkiye is working to thwart attempts to redesign the region through ongoing conflicts, while steadfastly advancing its defence industry. Speaking after a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdo\u011fan stated that certain circles are trying to influence regional developments through \u201cbloodshed and tears\u201d in Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan, and Yemen, adding that T\u00fcrkiye is acting to foil such \u201cgames.\u201d<\/p>\n
Defence industry and historic responsibility<\/p>\n
Erdo\u011fan said T\u00fcrkiye is \u201cmaking history\u201d in the defence industry and remains focused on long\u2011term goals amid a period of major regional and global transformation. \u201cAs the government and alliance, we are aware that we have assumed a historic responsibility at a time of historic transformations. We have no time to engage in quarrels or polemics,\u201d he emphasised. He also declared that Istanbul would remain Turkish and Muslim despite opposition from what he called the \u201cremnants of Byzantium.\u201d<\/p>\n
National unity<\/p>\n
Stressing national unity, Erdo\u011fan said T\u00fcrkiye would continue to stand together, grow stronger, and move forward as one nation. His remarks come as T\u00fcrkiye prepares to host the NATO summit in Ankara in July and continues its mediation efforts in the Iran\u2011US war, while also facing cross\u2011border threats from terrorist groups.
