On Tuesday, he said there are indications the SoftBank Group Corp. company may reach that milestone sooner, in part because of overwhelming demand from an industry racing to build data centers and artificial intelligence services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u201cI\u2019m hoping to hit that sooner. Demand has been stronger than we anticipated,\u201d Haas said in a brief interview on the sidelines of Computex, Asia\u2019s biggest tech industry convention. \u201cDemand has been fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Arm announced plans in March to sell its own chips for the first time \u2014 a major strategic shift for a company that made its name licensing technology to semiconductor makers. As part of the move, the SoftBank-controlled firm laid out aggressive targets for the coming years, including that $15 billion projection. It expects revenue from the new chip business to eclipse sales from current operations, which focus on selling intellectual property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Meta Platforms Inc. will be the first major customer for the company\u2019s chip, called an AGI CPU. The product will have as many as 136 cores \u2014 a measure of processing power \u2014 and draw 300 watts of electricity, according to the UK-based company. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will produce the chip.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Arm decided to make the new component because customers asked for it, Haas reiterated on Tuesday. The central processing unit, often described as the brains of a computer, is designed to work alongside the accelerators offered by companies such as Nvidia Corp.
