SAINT GEORGE, S.C. (WCSC) — A man is facing charges in connection to a deadly overdose that occurred at the start of the year.

Deputies say they investigated this case for several months, starting in the new year.
Jan. 3, detectives from the Dorchester County Metro Narcotics Unit were called to a home on the 100 block of Home Farm Road in Saint George because of a fatal overdose.
Detectives executed search warrants and investigated the case, leading them to believe Poland had supplied the victim, identified as Love Eroa Holmes, 38, with the fentanyl that killed her.
Tuesday, a search warrant was executed at Poland’s home.
During that search, investigators found around 0.2 grams of presumptive fentanyl that was similar in both color and packaging to the fentanyl that was recovered during the overdose investigation.
Detectives also discovered about 3.2 grams of presumptive methamphetamine.
Poland was arrested. He was booked into the L.C. Knight Detention Center, where he was last being held pending the outcome of a bond hearing.
Dorchester County Sheriff Sam Richardson expressed appreciation to the detectives and their work that led to this arrest.
“This case sends a clear message to anyone who traffics fentanyl in our community: if your actions result in the death of another person, you will be held accountable,” Richardson said. “South Carolina’s Fentanyl-Induced Homicide statute provides law enforcement and prosecutors with a powerful tool to pursue those whose actions directly leads to the loss of life. We remain committed to protecting our communities and ensuring that those who distribute this deadly poison face the full consequences of their actions.”
This case remains under investigation.
