CINCINNATI — Cincinnati police and SWAT responded to a home in East Price Hill Tuesday night after an 11-year-old child was shot, according to a police source and officers at the scene.

According to a witness, the boy was throwing rocks at a house on Warsaw Avenue, when a man walked out from the house and shot the boy in the head. The witness said the man then ran away from the scene and more people inside the house at the time ran out the back.

“Heard shots fired, ran to the other side of the building. There was the little boy that was laying on the ground,” a woman who works in the area and knows the boy said. She asked to remain anonymous since there is no update on a suspect.

“It was hard to see that because he is a regular that comes in. Like, he was just in here that that morning,” she said. “He is a really good, sweet little boy. He’s not a problem child.”

Police had no update to share on Wednesday. As for the boy’s condition, police said a “shooting victim” was taken to the hospital last night but couldn’t elaborate.

“He makes a lot of jokes, like he helps me out. He’s a really good, sweet little boy,” the woman who knows the boy said. “It hurts a lot to see that somebody would do that to a child.”

When WCPO crews arrived at the scene in the 3700 block of Warsaw Avenue Tuesday night, a large police presence and SWAT units were in the area. Our crew counted at least 20 marked and unmarked police vehicles responding.

Cincinnati police Sgt. Anthony Mitchell said the 11-year-old victim was found with a gunshot wound. Police did not provide any further information on that victim, or any possible suspects, but SWAT officers at the scene could be heard ordering someone to come out of a home for hours. It was determined that the home was empty.

By 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, police returned to the home, guns drawn, and entered it. No one appeared to be home at the time and it’s unclear what police were doing there. A CPD spokesperson did not provide information on the action.

Officers were on scene, along with CPD’s crime scene unit, for hours following the shooting; officers cleared the scene just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

This is a developing story. Check back with WCPO for updates as more information becomes available.
