WARSAW — A Pender County man was arrested last week on charges stemming from an indecent exposure incident at a Warsaw convenience store last Saturday, Aug. 29.
On Wednesday, Sept. 2, Michael A. Courtney was located and arrested, thanks to the assistance of the Pender County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with felony indecent exposure in the presence of a minor, misdemeanor indecent exposure, and additional misdemeanor driving-related charges. Courtney received no bond and is currently in the Duplin County Detention Center.
According to a Facebook post from the Warsaw Police Department, “The reporting parties contacted 911 after the suspect had left the business and reported that a male had been inside the store engaging in inappropriate behavior.”
An investigation identified Courtney as the suspect, and the Pender County Sheriff’s Office helped locate him. “Cooperation and communication between law enforcement agencies continue to play an important role when investigations cross jurisdictional boundaries,” the post from Warsaw PD reads. “We would also like to recognize our officer for quickly identifying the suspect and taking immediate investigative steps to move this case forward. The officer’s attention to detail and follow-up, combined with the assistance of the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, resulted in Courtney being located and taken into custody.”
Warsaw police also praised the individuals who contacted 911 and provided information regarding the incident. “The willingness of citizens to report suspicious or criminal activity plays an important role in helping law enforcement protect our community,” the post added. “The Warsaw Police Department remains committed to protecting our citizens, our children, and those who visit our community.”
