NILES OH- Grady Pitzulo was lights-out at Niles on Wednesday night as the Poland junior pitched a 5-inning no-hitter in the Bulldogs 11-0 shutout of the Red Dragons.
Pitzulo was in complete control the entire way, with the lone blemish on his tally being a single base runner reaching on an error in the 4th. Pitzulo would finish the night with 10 strikeouts through his 5 innings of no-hit work, with 2 Ks and a groundout in the 5th closing out the night and sealing the win for the Bulldogs.
Offensively, Poland was off and rolling from the start and never slowed down. The Bulldogs would get on the board with an RBI single from Zack Marantis before RBI knocks from Carmine Tukalo and Joe Zuccaro in the 2nd would expand Poland’s lead to 6-0. The Bulldogs would tally 3 more runs in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th, helping to give them a double-digit lead and a chance to seal the run-rule victory.
Joe Zuccaro finished the night 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs while Owen McKenzie also notched a multi-hit night while coming across to score twice.
Poland (5-2) gets a strong conference win as the Bulldogs will look to keep rolling as they get set to host St. John on Thursday. Niles (4-9) will look to rebound and find their spark offensively on Thursday when they host Campbell Memorial.
