WARSAW, Mo. (KY3) – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office fired one deputy and placed another deputy on administrative suspension following an April 1 incident.
In a news release, Sheriff Eric Knox said an internal administrative investigation into the matter has been completed. The incident has been referred to the local prosecutor’s office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for independent review.
“The conduct observed in this incident does not reflect the standards, training, or expectations of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office,” Knox said in a statement. “I hold our personnel to a high standard of professionalism and accountability; when these expectations are not upheld or are violated, appropriate action is taken.”
Video circulating on social media shows two deputies interacting with a man inside an ambulance.
Knox said the office is limited in what additional details it can provide because the matter has been referred to outside agencies. The office said it will cooperate with those agencies as their processes move forward.
