The Warsaw Community Women’s Club’s (WCWC) meeting on Thursday, April 9 at Jennifer’s Family Restaurant, featured a festive, thoughtful spring and Easter theme created by hostess Stephanie Doyle. Chocolates and packets of seeds for wildflowers and zinnias were placed at each table setting as an encouragement for each woman to “take home and spread some sunshine.”
President Jan Atkinson thanked Sue Kerr and Barb Casady for the joyous, celebratory St. Patrick’s Day observance and meeting on March 12, during which the group decided to sponsor a display in Warsaw’s Christmas-themed “Lights in the Park” in Ralston Park. Doyle reported that Scott Cheney can create a design and the group is considering a sign featuring their logo and a poinsettia or rose.
During the March meeting, a new slate of officers was elected: Jan Atkinson continues as president with Donna Naderhoff as vice-president and Doyle as treasurer. Debbie Callaghan was nominated for secretary, a position she accepted during this meeting.
During the April meeting, Gayle Roskamp announced that she contacted the Ursa Farmers’ Cooperative to reserve Saturday, Oct. 10 for the Farmers’ Luncheon at the Warsaw Elevator. Casady and Naderhoff will co-chair this popular scholarship fundraiser.
Roskamp stated that she will pick up scholarship applications from Warsaw High School and she and Atkinson will help to review them.
The Freedom Fest is cancelled this year, but the parade will go on. Naderhoff and Kerr – the Lil’ Mr. and Miss Freedom Fest Co-Chairs – and the WCWC, are considering participatory options for the past winners and for the group.
Naderhoff provided details of the Warsaw Public Events Committee’s Women’s Expo on May 16 from 1-4 p.m. at the Warsaw Brewery, LLC, 900 N. Fifth St. Tickets are $25. The WCWC will host an information booth manned by Atkinson and Naderhoff. Roskamp, Kerr, Rhonda Downey, and Mary Hurley will provide cookies.
Roskamp will host a Kentucky Derby-themed meeting on Thursday, May 14, and she provided a list of 20 eligible horses from which members can chose one to support. One-half of the proceeds raised from this fundraiser will be given to the winner and the other half will benefit the food pantry. Finger foods and beverages will complement this “run to the finish line.”
The group enjoyed delicious meals and wonderful fellowship after the meeting was adjourned.
