Polish authorities have called for a ban on the entry of Itamar Ben-Gvir following footage showing the treatment of activists detained after the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla attempting to break the blockade on Gaza.
According to statements from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Warsaw condemned the actions of the Israeli occupation authorities after videos circulated on social media showing detained activists being subjected to humiliating and violent treatment.
The controversy intensified after Ben-Gvir, the occupation regime’s national security minister, shared footage appearing to show activists handcuffed, forced to kneel, and surrounded by security forces at Ashdod Port.
Radoslaw Sikorski announced on social media platform X that Poland had summoned the Israeli chargé d’affaires in Warsaw over the detention of flotilla activists, including Polish citizens.
Sikorski demanded the immediate release of the detainees and called for an official apology from Israeli authorities.
“Poland strongly condemns the treatment by Israeli authorities of the Global Sumud Flotilla activists detained by the Israeli army,” Sikorski stated.
The Polish government also advised its citizens against traveling to the occupied Palestinian territories and Palestine due to security concerns.
The Global Sumud Flotilla had departed last Thursday from the Turkish coastal city of Marmaris in an attempt to break the blockade imposed on Gaza and deliver humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in the war-devastated territory.
Following the interception at sea, hundreds of activists were reportedly transferred to Ashdod Port. Footage later published online showed dozens of detainees kneeling on the ground with their hands tied behind their backs using plastic restraints while Zionist anthem music played over loudspeakers.
Several European countries have criticized the treatment of the activists, most of whom are European citizens, describing the humiliation of detainees as unacceptable and inhumane.
The incident has added to growing international criticism of the Israeli occupation regime’s handling of humanitarian missions and its ongoing blockade of Gaza amid worsening humanitarian conditions in the enclave. (ILKHA)
