{"id":1020,"date":"2026-04-12T22:40:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T22:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/1020\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T22:40:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T22:40:10","slug":"swindon-explorer-launches-4000-quest-for-poland-jamboree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/1020\/","title":{"rendered":"Swindon Explorer launches \u00a34,000 quest for Poland Jamboree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jenny Law, who represents Wiltshire Explorers, has been selected to take part in the 2027 World Scout Jamboree.<\/p>\n<p>The international gathering brings together Scouts aged 14 to 17 from around the world for cultural exchange, outdoor activities and collaborative challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny secured her place following a selection camp, although she said the process felt informal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey never really told us the criteria,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was just like, \u2018you\u2019re a good person, we\u2019re happy for you to represent us.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each participant must raise \u00a34,000 to cover travel, accommodation and activities. The total also contributes towards funding a place for a scout from a lower-income country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to pay for someone else to go as well,\u201d Jenny explained. \u201cWe never find out who it is, but we\u2019re helping someone else get that opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rather than being directly funded, those attending are encouraged to raise the money themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny has been holding market stalls in Swindon and Cricklade, selling drinks, snacks and handmade keyrings, as well as running games to attract donations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever we can make, really,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She has so far raised around \u00a31,500 and believes she is keeping pace with others in her group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m about the same as everyone else, so I\u2019m not behind,\u201d she said. \u201cI think I\u2019ll probably reach it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Jenny, the main draw is the experience itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a chance to meet people from literally every country,\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s a tradition of trading badges and scarves, and there\u2019s going to be days where you try food from all around the world. It\u2019s going to be so fun, I can\u2019t wait.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The jamboree is held every four years and is widely regarded as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young people.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny said scouting has also helped build her confidence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here talking to random people at a stall,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve made so many friends.
