{"id":1230,"date":"2026-04-13T09:39:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T09:39:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/1230\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T09:39:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T09:39:13","slug":"poland-and-south-korea-upgrade-ties-to-strategic-defence-partnership-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/1230\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland and South Korea upgrade ties to strategic defence partnership deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n         Published on<br \/>\n            13\/04\/2026 &#8211; 11:24 GMT+2\n            <\/p>\n<p>Poland and South Korea agreed on Monday to upgrade their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, with defence cooperation at the centre of the upgraded ties.<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n          ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n          ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk held a summit with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in Seoul, marking the first visit by a Polish prime minister to the country in 27 years. <\/p>\n<p>The two leaders discussed a range of issues, with the main focus on expanding defence industry cooperation under a $44.2 billion (\u20ac39.6 billion) framework agreement signed in July 2022. <\/p>\n<p>Lee said the partnership extended beyond arms sales to include joint production, technology transfers and training.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;K2 tanks, K9 self\u2011propelled howitzers, FA\u201150 light-attack aircraft, and Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers \u2014 bearing South Korea\u2019s technology and pride \u2014 are now safeguarding Poland\u2019s territory and its people across its vast lands,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tusk described South Korea as Poland\u2019s &#8220;most important ally after the United States, especially in the defence industry.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The two leaders also agreed to expand their cooperation across a wide range of areas, including energy supply chains, infrastructure, science and technology, high-tech industries and space.<\/p>\n<p>Warsaw has emerged as a key buyer of South Korean arms as it modernises its military following Russia&#8217;s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Tusk&#8217;s two-day visit, which began on Sunday, is his first to a non-European country since taking office as Polish prime minister in 2023.
