The outcome could reshape Baltic defense cooperation and regional deterrence.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, June 29, the prime ministers of Poland and Sweden will hold intergovernmental consultations on an agreement to supply three submarines for the Polish Navy.<\/p>\n<p>The talks will take place in Gdynia, on the grounds of the Polish Navy Academy.<\/p>\n<p>The key outcome of the talks in Gdynia will be the signing of the Navy\u2019s long-awaited contract to supply three submarines. The agreement is the culmination of a decision by the Polish government made last year, when the leadership of the Ministry of Defence announced that the ORKA program \u2013 a project for new submarines for the Polish Navy \u2013 would involve the Swedish company Saab<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 press service<\/p>\n<p>Context of the negotiations and expectations for the deal<\/p>\n<p>The contract is expected to cost around 20 billion zlotys and will be signed aboard the ORP Ko\u015bciuszko frigate.<\/p>\n<p>The first of the three new submarines is to be delivered in 2030.<\/p>\n<p>By that time, Sweden will hand over the so-called \u201cgap filler\u201d  \u2013  an older submarine for training future crews.<\/p>\n<p>Among the topics of the meeting will also be discussions on the future NATO summit, security in the Baltic Sea, and further support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>In the consultations, besides the prime ministers of both countries, ministers of defence, foreign affairs, and infrastructure will participate.<\/p>\n<p>Poland\u2019s Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Warsaw has received a positive signal from Washington regarding the possible establishment of a permanent U.S. military base on the country\u2019s territory.<\/p>\n<p>This move underscores Poland\u2019s growing role in the region\u2019s defense architecture and strengthens cooperation between Warsaw and Stockholm in the defence sphere.<\/p>\n<p>The signing of the contract is expected to strengthen defense cooperation between the two countries and enhance the security dimension in the Baltic region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Leaders will meet aboard ORP Ko\u015bciuszko to finalize a long-anticipated naval purchase.
