{"id":14615,"date":"2026-06-29T14:55:06","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T14:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/14615\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T14:55:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T14:55:06","slug":"poland-awards-4-8-billion-a26-submarine-deal-to-saab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/14615\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland awards $4.8 billion A26 submarine deal to Saab"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">WARSAW, Poland \u2014 The Polish Ministry of National Defence has signed a contract with Sweden\u2019s Saab to purchase three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2025\/11\/27\/poland-picks-saabs-a26-submarine-design-contract-eyed-by-years-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">A26-type submarines<\/a> for the country\u2019s Navy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">In a statement, Saab said that the contract\u2019s value corresponds to around SEK 47 billion ($4.8 billion), and deliveries are scheduled to be completed during 2038. Saab has also committed to developing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities in Poland in close partnership with the country\u2019s industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The deal was signed on June 29 in Gdynia, a city on the Polish Baltic Sea coast where a large part of the Navy\u2019s fleet is stationed, in the presence of Poland\u2019s and Sweden\u2019s prime ministers and defense ministers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">W\u0142adys\u0142aw Kosiniak-Kamysz, Poland\u2019s deputy prime minister and national defense minister, who took part in the official signing ceremony, said that the new submarines will carry drone swarms that will be used to safeguard the nation\u2019s critical infrastructure and shoreline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cPoland is acquiring, under the deal that was signed a moment ago, three fifth-generation A26-type submarines. These are the most advanced submarines designed for operations in the Baltic Sea, capable of carrying out missions both for the Navy and for special operations forces,\u201d Kosiniak-Kamysz was quoted as saying in a statement released by the ministry. \u201cThey will be able to deploy swarms of drones controlled from aboard the submarine and support the management and protection of the Baltic Sea\u2019s security infrastructure and architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Under a separate deal, Poland aims to urgently acquire a \u201cgap filler\u201d boat for its Baltic Sea operations that will be used to train its sailors.
