A suspected Russian cruise missile has crashed inside Poland during one of Moscow\u2019s largest air assaults on Ukraine, escalating concerns that the war is increasingly spilling into NATO territory.<\/p>\n
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said \u201call the indications\u201d pointed to the object being a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, although forensic investigations are continuing to establish its exact origin.<\/p>\n
Speaking near the impact site at Tarnawa-Kolonia in eastern Poland, Tusk initially referred to the weapon as a ballistic missile, though the Kh-101 is a long-range air-launched cruise missile.<\/p>\n
The incident unfolded during the early hours of Wednesday as Russia launched a major overnight bombardment of Ukraine<\/a> involving 74 cruise, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, alongside 284 Shahed-type drones.<\/p>\n At 3.40am local time, Poland\u2019s military detected an unidentified object entering its airspace while numerous Russian missiles were flying over western Ukraine.<\/p>\n An F-16 fighter was scrambled<\/a> to intercept the target, but radar contact was lost after approximately six minutes.
