France\u2019s President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Gda\u0144sk on Monday, April 20, to meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The main topic of discussion will be strengthening defense cooperation between the countries, with a focus on nuclear deterrence and joint actions in response to threats to Europe\u2019s security.<\/p>\n
The plans were announced to journalists during a briefing at the \u00c9lys\u00e9e Palace.<\/p>\n
Joining Macron in Gda\u0144sk are the ministers of defense and foreign affairs, as well as other members of the French government.<\/p>\n
\u00abThis summit aligns with the Franco-Polish Treaty of Friendship and Enhanced Cooperation, signed on May 9, 2025 in Nancy, which contains a provision on defense and mutual assistance that directly concerns France\u2019s closest allies\u00bb<\/p>\n

In March, Macron proposed bringing eight European countries, including Poland, into the \u201cadvanced French nuclear deterrence\u201d program to broaden the scope of collaboration in this area.<\/p>\n
In response, Polish Prime Minister Tusk expressed a desire for conventional participation of allied forces in France\u2019s nuclear activities, including participation in strike exercises similar to those in which the United Kingdom participates. \u201cOne of the goals of the summit will be to continue this discussion,\u201d the president\u2019s administration said.<\/p>\n
In addition, the leaders will discuss the development of the European industrial and defense base and joint steps in the use of military communications satellites.<\/p>\n
Relations between France and Poland are based on the intergovernmental Treaty of Friendship and Enhanced Cooperation, signed on May 9, 2025 in Nancy, which defines the framework for defense cooperation and mutual assistance.<\/p>\n
