Elon Musk\u2019s SpaceX has reversed plans to exclude Poland from Starlink\u2019s Europe roaming zone after protests from Warsaw, the country\u2019s digital affairs minister said Thursday.<\/p>\n
It was intended that from next Monday onwards, Polish users would have to notify Starlink whenever they travelled outside the country, including elsewhere in Europe, and pay a more expensive subscription after 30 days abroad.<\/p>\n
Customers elsewhere in Europe are subject to such requirements only when travelling outside Starlink\u2019s Europe roaming zone.<\/p>\n
\u201cSpaceX has responded to my request and will not treat Polish customers worse than those in other European countries,\u201d minister Krzysztof Gawkowski wrote on X.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolish customers will not be subject to any new restrictions,\u201d the minister added.<\/p>\n
Gawkowski had condemned the requirement initially imposed by Starlink on Polish customers to submit a \u201ctravel declaration\u201d to the company, including a copy of their passport or another photo ID, for every trip.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have called on SpaceX to urgently restore fair competitive conditions for the company\u2019s Polish customers,\u201d Gawkowski said.<\/p>\n
Starlink did not explain why Poland was initially excluded from its Europe roaming region under policy changes set to take effect on August 17, but Polish officials suggested it could be linked to Poland\u2019s support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n
An EU and NATO member state bordering both Russia and Ukraine, Poland is one of Kyiv\u2019s most vocal allies and has spent millions to provide Starlink terminals and subscriptions to Ukrainian forces.<\/p>\n
