It was built in the town of Konotopie and funded by married couple Gra\u017cyna and Roman Karkosik, for whom it represents a \u201cpersonal vow of thanksgiving for the recovery of their health and lives,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/es.euronews.com\/my-europe\/2026\/08\/15\/consagran-la-figura-de-maria-mas-alta-de-europa-caen-petalos-de-rosa-del-cielo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" class=\"text-red-500 hover-underline-animation-red\">according to Euronews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-[18px] md:text-[20px] first-of-type:mt-5 mt-[16px] lg:mt-[28px] leading-[28px] md:leading-8 normal \">Its height exceeds that of the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, which measures 38 meters (125 feet) from its base; it is also taller than the Christ the King of the Universe statue in \u015awiebodzin, Poland, which stands 52.5 meters (172 feet) tall when measured from the mound upon which it rises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-[18px] md:text-[20px] first-of-type:mt-5 mt-[16px] lg:mt-[28px] leading-[28px] md:leading-8 normal \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/en\/pope\/news\/2026-08\/europe-s-tallest-statue-of-mary-blessed-in-poland.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" class=\"text-red-500 hover-underline-animation-red\">According to Vatican News<\/a>, the statue depicts Our Lady of Mercy and is located near a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, which serves as a pilgrimage site. The bishop of W\u0142oc\u0142awek highlighted this during the blessing ceremony, noting that the site where the new monument stands &#8220;is no ordinary place; it is a place sanctified by the prayers of pilgrims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-[18px] md:text-[20px] first-of-type:mt-5 mt-[16px] lg:mt-[28px] leading-[28px] md:leading-8 normal \">Construction followed the design of sculptor Adam Jakub Matejkowski. The pedestal is surrounded by eight pillars in the form of a crown. Additionally, pilgrims can go up to a terrace at a height of 15.3 meters (50 feet), from where the image of Mary itself rises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-[18px] md:text-[20px] first-of-type:mt-5 mt-[16px] lg:mt-[28px] leading-[28px] md:leading-8 normal \">In his homily, the prelate emphasized the importance of lifting one\u02bcs gaze toward heaven, especially in these times when many people \u201ckeep their eyes fixed solely on the earth and focus exclusively on themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-[18px] md:text-[20px] first-of-type:mt-5 mt-[16px] lg:mt-[28px] leading-[28px] md:leading-8 normal \">Regarding the name of the new sculpture, W\u0119tkowski noted that St. Faustina Kowalska, to whom Christ revealed his divine mercy, was born in \u015awinice Warckie, also within the Diocese of W\u0142oc\u0142awek, where she was baptized and received her first Communion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-[18px] md:text-[20px] first-of-type:mt-5 mt-[16px] lg:mt-[28px] leading-[28px] md:leading-8 normal \">\u201cHere in Konotopie, Mary, in the image we see, welcomes us all; she leans toward us and opens her arms to invite us to lift our gaze upward, toward God and heaven,\u201d W\u0119tkowski noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-[18px] md:text-[20px] first-of-type:mt-5 mt-[16px] lg:mt-[28px] leading-[28px] md:leading-8 normal \">The ceremony began with the recitation of the rosary and concluded with a shower of red rose petals dropped from two helicopters hovering over the monument.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-[18px] md:text-[20px] first-of-type:mt-5 mt-[16px] lg:mt-[28px] leading-[28px] md:leading-8 normal \">This story <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aciprensa.com\/noticias\/127723\/polonia-inaugura-la-estatua-de-la-virgen-maria-mas-grande-de-europa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" class=\"text-red-500 hover-underline-animation-red\">was first published<\/a> by ACI Prensa, the Spanish-language sister service of EWTN News.
