As Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack against Ukraine, Poland scrambled military aircraft overnight into Thursday and placed its ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems on heightened alert, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to the activity of Russian long-range aviation carrying out strikes on Ukrainian territory, military aviation operations have begun in Polish airspace,\u201d the command said in a statement on X.<\/p>\n
Ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were also placed on heightened alert.<\/p>\n
Polish authorities said the measures were preventive and aimed at ensuring the security and protection of Polish airspace, particularly in areas bordering regions under threat.<\/p>\n
As previously reported, at least six people were killed and dozens injured in Russian missile attacks on the city of Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight into Thursday.<\/p>\n
