The last time fans saw When Calls the Heart<\/a>\u2019s Elizabeth Thornton and Nathan Grant, they were hopping on a train out of Hope Valley in hopes of a brighter future \u2014 but where will they stand come season 13?<\/p>\n

\u201cNathan and Elizabeth take steps forward,\u201d Erin Krakow<\/a> exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of the season 13 premiere on Sunday, January 4, teasing that the TV couple\u2019s time in Cape Fullerton will be important to their growth.<\/p>\n

The actress<\/a>, who plays Elizabeth on the Hallmark series, revealed, \u201cThey get romantic together. They get silly together. There are some beautiful, beautiful moments between them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krakow, 41, added that she thinks fans will be \u201cmore than satisfied\u201d with Elizabeth and Nathan\u2019s romance in the new season after waiting patiently<\/a> \u2014 and impatiently \u2014 for them to get together.<\/p>\n

During the season 12 finale, which aired in March 2025, Elizabeth decided to take her son, Little Jack (Hyland Goodrich), from Hope Valley to the bigger city of Cape Fullerton to better access diabetes insulin.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t reveal how long she\u2019d be gone, but after a health scare with Little Jack, Elizabeth knew she couldn\u2019t wait any longer and headed for the train station before boyfriend Nathan (Kevin McGarry) returned from his shift as a Mountie.<\/p>\n

Once Nathan learned of Elizabeth\u2019s plan, he and daughter Allie (Jaeda Lily Miller) headed to the station to join them, with the Mountie telling his love, \u201cWhere you go, I go.\u201d<\/p>\n

While their time in Cape Fullerton will be pivotal to their relationship, Krakow told Us that the pair won\u2019t be there for a long time \u2014 at least when it comes to what viewers see on screen. Elizabeth and Nathan, however, will be transformed, even with their style from the experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can draw attention to the one thing that we\u2019re all thinking, which is Nathan\u2019s mustache. That\u2019s back,\u201d Krakow said with a laugh, referring to photos released of the character with new facial hair. \u201cThat\u2019s something that I guess Nathan grew during his time in Cape Fullerton.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress noted that Allie \u201cthinks it hides his smile,\u201d so just how long the mustache will last is very much up in the air. \u201cThat was a fun style change,\u201d Krakow added.<\/p>\n

When it comes to Elizabeth\u2019s wardrobe switch, Krakow said it was partially influenced by her real-life pregnancy<\/a>, which she announced in November 2025. (Krakow is married to WCTH costar Ben Rosenbaum.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t really have much of a bump,\u201d she explained to Us. \u201cI found out part of the way through filming season 13 that I was pregnant, and luckily I had already asked Barbara, our incredible wardrobe designer, if we could start to incorporate some flowier, more 1920s silhouettes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krakow noted that she thought it \u201cwould make sense for Elizabeth to come back with a slightly different look to her fashion\u201d after spending time in Cape Fullerton.<\/p>\n

Three years after Carlos and Alexa PenaVega wed in 2014, they starred in the made-for-TV film Enchanted Christmas. The pair have gone on to costar in their own Hallmark Movies & Mysteries franchise, Picture [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

\u201cThat ended up really working out in my favor, and luckily, I had some little elves who could help me just loosen waist lines as needed,\u201d she laughed. \u201cBut it wasn\u2019t really much of a bump when we wrapped this season.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to Krakow expecting her and Rosenbaum\u2019s first baby, their costars McGarry, 40, and Chris McNally, who plays Lucas Bouchard, both announced their own family expansions almost in tandem.<\/p>\n

McGarry\u2019s wife, Kayla Wallace<\/a>, who also starred on WCTH before playing Rebecca Falcone on Landman, confirmed her first pregnancy in early November 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McNally, meanwhile, shared in December 2025 that his wife, fellow Hallmark actress Julie Gonzalo<\/a>, is pregnant with their second baby.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did talk about it, but it\u2019s not like we sat around in a group and said, \u2018OK, go.\u2019 It just, it\u2019s sort of amazing that it happened in this way, you know, within six weeks of each other,\u201d Krakow told Us of the casts\u2019 baby fever. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty incredible. I don\u2019t know if there\u2019s something in the water or if, you know, we\u2019re all just fertile. But here we are. It\u2019s been really fun to get to share in this chapter together.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Krakow and her castmates are preparing for parenthood offscreen, she said it\u2019s a little too soon to know if her WCTH character will have a baby with Nathan.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever say never. I mean, who knows? I [am] constantly surprised and delighted by what the writers come up with for us,\u201d Krakow said when asked about a possible Elizabeth baby. \u201cLet\u2019s take it one step at a time here. Let\u2019s get them engaged first, and then we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

As fans wait for an engagement \u2014 and possible pregnancy \u2014 for Elizabeth and Nathan, they can also expect more romance from Hope Valley\u2019s other characters.<\/p>\n
