{"id":24045,"date":"2026-09-05T06:29:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T06:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/24045\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T06:29:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T06:29:09","slug":"college-hill-businesses-enrich-warsaw-community-daily-gate-city-keokuk-iowa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/24045\/","title":{"rendered":"College Hill businesses enrich Warsaw community | Daily Gate City &#8211; Keokuk, Iowa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Warsaw residents and visitors from surrounding areas arrive in town via the Warsaw Road, they notice the attractive sign created by Sue Jobe of Sue\u2019s Signs promoting four College Hill businesses: The Salon, Hens and Harvest Homestead, Slong Garlic Farm, and Select Whitetails.<\/p>\n<p>Patty McLaughlin, owner of The Salon, is a licensed cosmetologist with almost 40 years of experience. She welcomes walk-in customers on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and also looks forward to serving her clientele by appointment-only on Thursdays and Fridays. She advocated for strategically placing the sign near the entrance to Warsaw because people are \u201ccoming into town\u201d and she wanted them to be aware of the quality businesses located on College Hill. McLaughlin noted that each of the featured businesses contributed to the cost of the sign and the \u201cCity of Warsaw put it up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>RaeAnna Barnhill of Hens and Harvest Homestead, her mother Mary, and her two children \u201care currently waiting for our building to be delivered to get products out and available; it should be here in a couple of weeks. We are a small homestead focused on providing homemade, wholesome products made with care \u2014 with one very important promise: everything we make is Alpha-Gal friendly. From our kitchen, garden, and flock to your home, we offer: homemade baked goods \u2013 freshly made breads, baked treats, and other delicious goodies; homemade canned goods \u2013 jams, jellies, preserves, and seasonal favorites; farm-fresh eggs \u2013 fresh eggs from our happy homestead hens; seasonal produce \u2013 fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and garden favorites as they come into season; skin\/self care products \u2013 from luxurious face creams and serums to soothing sugar scrubs and other handcrafted body-care products, each item is made with care and packaged with the same simple, natural-inspired aesthetic that represents our homestead. At Hens &amp; Harvest Homestead. We believe good food should be simple, homemade, fresh, and something you can feel good about sharing with your family. Whether you\u2019re looking for fresh eggs, something sweet from the kitchen, a jar of homemade goodness, or fresh produce from the garden, we\u2019re growing, baking, preserving, and sharing a little piece of homestead life with our community. We are working on growing to include homemade goods such as sewn items, art, and other crafts. Hens &amp; Harvest Homestead Homegrown \u2022 Homemade \u2022 Alpha-Gal Friendly.\u201d (Barnhill and her mother have completed the course for cottage food certification and are certified; the children have not completed the course so are not currently involved in food production.)<\/p>\n<p>Steve Long of Slong Garlic Farm has been in business since 2015. He said, \u201c[We have] eight varieties of hardneck garlic, which are sold as seed to other garlic growers. In addition, we sell culinary garlic, garlic powder, salt, and flakes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Truman Phillips of Select Whitetails said, \u201c[He] raises whitetail deer for sale for breeder bucks, stocker bucks, and does.
