The United States embassy in Poland says it is breaking off contact with the country\u2019s parliamentary speaker over what it calls \u201coutrageous\u201d insults directed at President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose said on Thursday that the decision to end all dealings with Wlodzimierz Czarzasty would take effect \u201cimmediately\u201d.<\/p>\n
This week, Czarzasty said Trump does not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize he has long sought<\/a> and slammed the US president\u2019s \u201cpolicy of force\u201d in international affairs. He pointed to Trump\u2019s tariffs on European countries, threats to seize Greenland<\/a>\u00a0and claims that NATO allies had stayed off the front lines<\/a> during the war in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a breach of the politics of principles and values, often a breach of international law,\u201d Czarzasty told reporters.<\/p>\n Rose said Czarzasty\u2019s comments were \u201coutrageous and unprovoked\u201d and undermined otherwise strong US-Polish ties.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will not permit anyone to harm US-Polish relations nor disrespect [Trump], who has done so much for Poland and the Polish people,\u201d Rose wrote on X.<\/p>\n Czarzasty was defiant after the rebuke, saying that while he \u201crespects\u201d the US as an ally, he stands by his view that Trump is undeserving of the world\u2019s top peace prize.<\/p>\n Writing on X, Czarzasty said: \u201cI continue to respect the United States as a key partner of Poland. Therefore, I regret Ambassador Tom Rose\u2019s declaration, but I will not change my position on these fundamental issues for Polish women and men.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018Respect, not lecture\u2019<\/p>\n The row also drew a response from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who urged the US ambassador to avoid lecturing Polish officials.<\/p>\n \u201cMr. Ambassador Rose, allies should respect, not lecture, each other. At least this is how we, here in Poland, understand partnership,\u201d said Tusk in a statement.
