Season 13 of When Calls the Heart<\/a> has officially begun \u2014 so when will fans see Lori Loughlin<\/a> return as Abigail Stanton?<\/p>\n

Erin Krakow<\/a>, who plays Elizabeth Thornton on the Hallmark series, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/a> ahead of the Sunday, January 4, season 13 premiere that viewers won\u2019t see Loughlin\u2019s comeback this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cLori Loughlin is returning in season 14,\u201d Krakow, 41, confirmed, noting she is \u201cso excited\u201d and \u201cover-the-moon happy\u201d about Loughlin\u2019s homecoming.<\/p>\n

The actress confessed, \u201cI can\u2019t tell you anything about it because I don\u2019t know anything about it. We haven\u2019t written the season yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although WCTH season 14 remains a mystery, Krakow told Us she \u201ccannot wait\u201d to see Loughlin\u2019s character, Abigail, \u201creunite with her friends and most especially with Henry,\u201d who is played by Martin Cummins.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited for that moment that Elizabeth and Abigail finally get to hug \u2018hello\u2019 after many years apart,\u201d Krakow continued. \u201cBut there\u2019s just always been something between Henry Gowen and Abigail, and I can\u2019t wait to see how that develops.\u201d<\/p>\n

Loughlin, 61, and Krakow were both part of the original cast of When Calls the Heart when it premiered in 2014.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBefore Kevin McGarry booked his role on When Calls the Heart, Lori Loughlin drove him to a chemistry read. \u201cThere was a problem at the studio, and the chemistry read that I was supposed to have with [costar] Erin [Krakow] was delayed. And they were like, \u2018Don\u2019t worry, we\u2019re figuring this out, we\u2019re sending somebody.\u2019 [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

After six seasons on the show, Hallmark cut ties<\/a> with Loughlin in March 2019 amid her connection to the college admissions scandal.<\/p>\n

Loughlin and now-estranged husband Mossimo Giannulli<\/a> initially denied having any part in allegedly paying for their daughters, Bella, 27, and Olivia Jade, 26, to be admitted to the University of Southern California. They later changed their plea to guilty to charges of wire and mail fraud and served two and five months<\/a>, respectively, in jail. (Us confirmed in October 2025 that Loughlin and Giannulli had separated after 27 years together<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Hallmark explained Loughlin\u2019s absence during season 6 of the series<\/a>, revealing during a May 2019 episode that Abigail had left Hope Valley to help her sick mother out east<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When Calls the Heart has continued to tell the story of its Hope Valley residents, but Loughlin and her character, Abigail, have never been far from the cast\u2019s minds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s been lots of people that [have] said we\u2019d love to have her back,\u201d Kevin McGarry, who plays Mountie Nathan Grant on the show, exclusively told Us <\/a>of Loughlin in June 2024. \u201cIt\u2019s not our decision, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krakow, meanwhile, has remained friends with Loughlin during her six-year hiatus from the show, teasing on more than one occasion how much she wanted the actress to return.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love Lori Loughlin, and I love the character she created, Abigail Stanton,\u201d Krakow exclusively told Us<\/a> in November 2025, saying she sure hoped they were getting \u201ccloser\u201d to having her back on the hit series.<\/p>\n

Weeks later, news broke that Loughlin will be returning to the show for six of the 12 episodes next season.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the series\u2019 debut in 2014, the character of Abigail Stanton was a fan favorite and beloved by the Hearties,\u201d Hallmark Media\u2019s head of programming, Michelle Vicary, said in a statement<\/a> in December 2025. \u201cAt its core the Hallmark brand is about hope, positivity and connection, which is also the central theme of When Calls the Heart. We felt that season 14 was the right time to continue Abigail\u2019s story with her return to this beloved series.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krakow was thrilled about the announcement, telling Us that same month that Loughlin\u2019s story line is being kept under wraps at the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no idea what they\u2019re going to write for us<\/a>, but I hope that we get to learn more about what Abigail has been up to, where she\u2019s been,\u201d Krakow mused in December 2025. \u201cWe know that she went away to look after her ailing mother, but we really don\u2019t know much more beyond that, what has become of Cody (Carter Evancic) and Becky (Ali Skovbye), her adoptive children. There\u2019s a lot to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krakow noted, \u201cIt\u2019ll be really exciting for Abigail to get to see all of the ways that Hope Valley has changed since she\u2019s been away, the different relationships, the new characters, a lot has changed.\u201d<\/p>\n
